ABOUT JAY BALTER

Jay Balter, founder of Balter Advisors, exemplifies the firm's commitment to advisory services based on extensive, successful and satisfying real-life experience.

Mr. Balter began to help and counsel others as an 18-year-old soldier and medic in the Vietnam era. Returning to civilian life, he quickly worked his way up from claim adjuster to national director of Health Care and Rehabilitation for The Home Insurance Company of New York.. At age 37, he completed his education under the GI Bill, attending school at night while he worked and raised a family. He received a degree in Psychology from Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y.

In 1978, Jay Balter co-founded VOCAID, Inc., a private career and vocational counseling firm serving unemployed, displaced and disabled workers. As CEO, he was a counselor and a "counselor's counselor." While CEO and president of VOCAID, he also became an active leader and spokesperson for the vocational rehabilitation profession. In 1994, he testified before Congress on the landmark Reemployment Act of 1994 (Welfare Reform). Mr. Balter also was a frequent guest lecturer in the California State University system.

Jay Balter married his wife Sheila in 1963, and they recently celebrated their 40th anniversary. Together they raised and educated two children, now successful adults working in the fields of psychology and business. In addition to his immediate family, Mr. Balter provides elder care for his 92-year-old mother, who raised her own family as a single parent in a working-class neighborhood in New York City. He is also legal guardian for two mentally challenged family members.

Jay Balter considers his family experiences to be as important as his academic and business experiences. He also views his role as a
grandfather of three as an ongoing learning chapter in his personal "life story."

Mr. Balter sold VOCAID in the late 1990s to the employees he had personally trained. VOCAID recently celebrated its 25th year in business and has over a dozen counseling locations in California.

After selling VOCAID, Jay Balter undertook graduate psychology studies at Pacifica Graduate Institute, where he studied Jungian Depth Psychology, and he became fascinated with the study of individual Purpose, Passion and Mission. He continued with his adult learning experience by attending coaching seminars at Hudson Institute, New Ventures and Neufield Network -- three excellent and innovative organizations specializing in coach training.

Jay Balter founded Jay Balter Advisors in 2003 for the purpose of providing Counseling, Coaching and Mentoring to the entire adult population, not just the disabled and disadvantaged, although he still serves these groups on a pro bono and sliding-fee basis.

Mr. Balter serves as an advisor to clients, as well as a trainer and advisor to the Balter Advisors, all of whom are pre-qualified by Jay Balter himself. A qualified Balter Advisor must have extensive experience in a specific profession or career, as well as necessary life experience.
